[American Indian Heritage: Some researchers believe that the PENNINGTON families recorded on this webpage are of American Indian descent, specifically the Delaware Tribe of Indians. However, no documentation has been found (or shared when requested) to verify that assertion. Additionally, DNA testing for Daniel is inconclusive with respect to showing a direct relationship to indigenous peoples of the Americas. Anyone with documentation that may provide evidence of this American Indian descent is encouraged to contact Daniel.]

Military: It has been suggested by some that Micajah, Sr. and Micajah, Jr. both served in the American Revolution (citing a rejected Pension Application – #R12277). This application was filed by Elizabeth (Pennington) Barton, widow of John Barton, Jr, and daughter of Micajah Pennington, Sr. In it, she refers to her father and other family members, but there is no indication that Micajah Sr. or Jr. served in the American Revolution. It has further been suggested that one or both of the father/son served in the War of 1812. No definitive documentation has been located; if one of them had served, it would likely have been Micajah Jr., based on their ages and death dates. The webmaster welcomes any new evidence that will add clarification to this mystery.
