Cpl. James P. Earl

James (husband of Bridgette Mihm) enlisted in the U.S. Army on 27 October 1986, at Oakland, Alameda Co., California, achieving the rank of Corporal (E4). He had airborne training at Ft. Benning, Georgia and was stationed at Ft. Gordon, Georgia, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, and for a year at Camp Casey in Tongduchon, Republic of Korea. His Military Occupational Speciality was a Multichannel Communications Systems Operator, Master Fitness Trainer, and Parachutist. James also received parachutist and sharpshooter badges. He was honorably discharged from Ft. Drum, New York on 29 July 1990.

Robert served in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1963, reaching the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class (E5). After boot camp he was sent to Key West, FL where he attended “sonar school” and graduated number one in his class. He was subsequently assigned to theUSS Keppler in Newport, RI working as a sonar man. He later traveled to the Mediterranean visiting Spain and Italy, and stopping at the Rock of Gibraltar. Upon his return to Newport he travled to GITMO, Cuba for 2-3 weeks. At about 2 1/2 years in to his service, he transferred to the USS Berkeley, at the Philadelphia Navel Shipyard, where he was one of the original members of the crew, also serving as a sonar man. Part of his travel was going through the Panama Canal, which took 8 hours, then visiting Acapulco, Mexico, before arriving at the ship’s homeport in Long Beach, CA.

Sgt. Bridgette (Mihm) Earl
|
|
Bridgette (wife of James Earl) enlisted in 2001 and served in the U.S. Army until 2005 as Sergeant (E5). She was in the Army Reserves from 2008-2011. After basic training Bridgette was assigned to the 101st Air Borne Division (Air Assault) in Fort Campbell, KY. In 2003 she deployed with the division to Iraq as a part of the invading force. After the initial push north the battalion moved to Qayyarah Airfield West (Q-west) where they stayed until redeployment in January 2004, In February 2005 she received an honorable discharge from active duty. In 2008 she joined the Army Reserves and was assigned to the 334th Medical Group in Grand Rapids, MI, then later reclassified to a chaplain’s assistance and served until 2011.

John is the son of John Elmore and George Grace (Lanning) Ross, making him the great-great grandson of George W. Sr. and E. R. (_____) Dillard. John enlisted in the U.S. Navy on 25 Apr 1956 and was discharged on 14 Apr 1960.

Sgt. Bruce A. Schwintosky

Bruce (brother of Roger) is the son of Edward and Elva “Pete” (Bonner) Schwintosky, making him the grandson of Elmer and Clarice (Winslow) Bonner. Bruce.served in the U.S. Army from 1 June 1960 to approximately 12 June 1967, holding the rank of Sergeant (E5). He later served one year in the Reserves (in 1971) at the rank of Staff Sergeant (E6). Bruce was stationed in Germany during part of his service.

CWO4 Roger Schwintosky
|
|
Roger (brother of Bruce and husband of Helen Yates) is the son of Edward and Elva “Pete” (Bonner) Schwintosky, making him the grandson of Elmer and Clarice (Winslow) Bonner. Roger enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1966 and retired in 1988, holding the rank of Chief Warrant Officer (CWO4). Roger served on the USS Whitfield County (stationed in Japan), the USS Union (San Diego), the USS Yosemite (Florida), and the USS Puget Sound (Italy), among many other assignments. He also spent several tours with the Mobile Riverine Force (MRF) in Vietnam from 1966-1970. Roger visited 32 countries, including the U.S. territories of Guam and Puerto Rico, the British Crown Colony of Hong Kong, and Sydney, Australia.

|
|
Helen (wife of Roger Schwintosky) enlisted in 1973. She served as a Disbursing Clerk in Monterey, CA and was later transferred to Jacksonville, FL, then Mayport, FL where her husband was stationed onboard the USS Yosemite. She received her honorable discharge in 1977 at the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class (E5) and accompanied her husband for the remainder of his Naval career.

PO3 Nicholas J. Zanfardino
|
|
Nicholas is the son of Robert and Nancy (Goodwin) Zanfardino, making him the 5th great-grandson of Robert and Miriam (Booker) Earl. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in August 2015. Nicholas completed his basic training at the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Cape May, New Jersey, in October 2015, and was subsequently stationed at the St. Ignace Station, Michigan from October 2015 to August 2017, serving the Straits of Mackinaw. There he served as a communications watch stander and ice rescuer, receiving a letter of commendation for lives saved and property protected. Following his duties in Michigan, Nicholas attended the Coast Guard “A” School in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, from August 2017 to February 2018, to become an Aviation Maintenance Technician. Nicholas is currently (July 2019) stationed at McClellan AFB in Sacramento, California and holds the rank of Petty Officer, Third Class (PO3) and Aviation Maintenance Technician, Third Class (AMT3) where he performs maintenance on aircraft and flies patrols along the U.S.-Mexico boarder.
